Match the exact product
Start with the product name and whether it is dry, wet, or another format. A brand can make many recipes for different life stages and intended uses. In Scoops, opening a food’s details gives the label information its own place, separate from your pet’s feeding plan.
Pay attention to the calorie basis
A calorie statement can use different units, such as calories per kilogram, cup, or can. A portion calculation needs the food’s energy density and the correct unit. Keep the package nearby, and do not assume that a cup of one food contains the same calories as a cup of another.
Use more than the ingredient list
WSAVA provides guidance on selecting pet foods and reading labels, including information beyond the ingredient list. Its nutrition toolkit is a useful companion to a discussion with your veterinary team. Scoops organizes food information; it does not certify a manufacturer or replace an individual nutritional assessment.
